It’s time for some more first impressions of the anime from this season with arguably one of the cutest series that’s currently airing.

Tsurezure Children is a romantic comedy that’s based on a 4-koma manga. It’s a series that depicts various different scenarios of young love. The synopsis is simple, but it’s one that’s been able to produce a series with the perfect combination of  romance and comedy.

Every week, there’s a different set of couples, all the characters having different personalities. Admittedly, I’ve been able to pick a favourite couple from each episode. In episode one, it was the astronomy club member confessing her love to the outgoing president. In the second episode, it was Jun and Yuki, even with Jun’s younger sister Hotaru being jealous with the attention that Yuki receives from Jun and the attention that Jun gives to Yuki. In episode three, the latest episode, it has to be the dorky Yamane and Kurihara – probably the cutest of all the couples yet.

I really like the animation style. It’s so clean and really pretty. It somehow makes the cute characters cuter and makes the dorky characters dorkier and honestly? It fits the high school setting perfectly. Again, the animation style in this series is just one of those things of which I can’t find the right words to emphasise why I like it. Hopefully, by the end of the season, I’ll be able to do just that.

Although the OP or ED aren’t too special, the OST of the series ensures that the background music matches each scenario quite well. It’s quite often a happy-go-lucky soundtrack, which matches the premise of the show quite well. Apart from that, there’s not really much else to say about the OST at this stage.

Tsurezure Children is only 12 minutes an episode, but you don’t need it to be longer. As its source is a 4-koma manga, a format which is used primarily for gags, there’s no need for the anime to spend too long on each couple. Approximately three or four minutes per couple is all you need to experience the cute awkwardness of high-school crushes that are the focus of the show.

If you’re wanting a show that’s a little nostalgic of high-school, that’s cute, short and sweet, then you should definitely give Tsurezure Children a try. For me, it certainly has potential to be one of my favourites for this season.
